La carcara specialises in local cuisine and is run by a young and enthusiastic couple. The restaurant is situated in Pogerola which still comes under Amalfi but is actually a bus ride away. Buses go directly from Amalfi and take about 20 minutes to get there and it is well worth the ride.
The restaurant is welcoming and offers a variety of fish, meat and pasta dishes. Try the excellent mixed starter with courgette flowers or seaweed deep fried in batter, grilled vegetables, arancini (rice balls with mozzarella and ham), potato croquets , mixed seafood salad and marinated anchovies. The list is endless. Pasta dishes include scialatelli con frutti di mare (homemade pasta with seafood) and paccheri all ‘astice (a wide tubular pasta with lobster).The pizzas are also excellent. For something different try a pizza with sausages and broccoli or sausages and peppers. If not order one large pizza with different toppings so that you get to try more than one type!
